Motorola Moto G9 First Impressions

The V7 was not Motorola’s best handset. It had some virtues but not enough to demand the price it came in at. Most of the reviewers were impressed with it but they were not entirely impressed by it.

Now we have the Moto G9, which has a similar screen size and body shape but features a few new features that make it look better. Are they worth the extra $10?

The G9 is inspired by the premium flagships of today. It has a lot in common with the flagship M-series:

5.5 inch HD+ touchscreen

A 12 megapixel camera on the back

A 7 megapixel camera on the front

One fingerprint sensor

A 6 mm frame

CPU (f/1.8)

Internal storage is 64 GB

It is being marketed as the flagship of the M-series, which is presumably so Motorola can hope to capitalize on the success of the M10, which is a reasonable price for a smartphone these days.

RAM & Battery

It appears that the RAM is a mix of 3 GB and 6 GB so it will take full advantage of 4G and enjoy fast data speeds.

Both the 5.5 and 5.7 have no headphone jack.

Internal storage has been reduced to 64 GB. If you want more, you will need to pay extra for a 128 GB model.

The phone comes with a 3000 mAh battery, which seems pretty good compared to last year’s 2950 mAh model.

Screen size remains the same.

An Expected Price

The Moto G9 will cost $249.99 for the base 16 GB model and is available now. Buyers can get a 32 GB model for $299.99. The 32 GB and 128 GB model are both exclusive to and will come with free two-year subscriptions to Verizon’s Unlimited package and 20 free movies.

People who go for the 128 GB model will also get their own mobile hotspot.

Bottom line

If you want the latest and greatest, you will have to spend around $1,000. The Moto G9 has some of the latest technology, but is priced higher than most budget phones. If the screen is as good as you expect, it may be worth it.
